The Organisation

Air Vanuatu is Vanuatu's national airline and reaches international destinations across Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and Fiji. It operates 27 domestic routes, has a growing fleet of 6 aircraft and engages over 440 staff and employees.

The Position

The Chief Engineer is the senior manager responsible for the effective operation of Air Vanuatu’s independent Part 145 maintenance organization. This organization has been delegated under Air Vanuatu’s Part 119 AOC to provide line maintenance services for a diverse fleet that includes the Boeing 737-800, ATR 72-600, Twin Otter and Britten Norman Islander. The Chief Engineer provides leadership to a team of licensed and non-licensed aircraft maintenance engineers, GSE technicians and logistics personnel. He/she is accountable for sustaining high quality standards, meeting aircraft reliability objectives and ensuring full regulatory compliance. The Chief Engineer must meet the requirements and norms established by IOSA audit standards and demonstrate to the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vanuatu that he/she is at all times fit and proper to hold this position. Air Vanuatu is entering a period of growth that will see a transition to new Airbus A220 and Cessna Caravan aircraft. The Chief Engineer will manage the transformation and growth of the Part 145 maintenance organization so that it can provide support for these new aircraft types.

Essential Selection Criteria

► Must be a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer

► Have appropriate educational qualifications and experience in personnel management and technical leadership

► Proven track record in developing and growing Part 145 or similar technical organisations while sustaining quality, reliability and productivity standards

► Team player with strong interpersonal skills, particularly in a multicultural environment

► Subject to a “Fit and Proper” approval by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vanuatu

Desirable Selection Criteria

► Proven experience working in a challenging and demanding work environment

► Have experience working in a developing country, preferably Vanuatu or the Pacific region

► Be proactive and adaptive to changing environments
