The Organisation

The role of the Australian High Commission in Vanuatu is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas. The Australian High Commission provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government and works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

The Position

Building resilient infrastructure and an environment for economic opportunity is one of the strategic objectives of the Government of Australia’s Vanuatu aid program. Under limited direction, the Senior Program Manager Infrastructure will lead a small team to manage Australia’s support to the infrastructure sectors. This includes oversight of the new Roads for Development Phase 2 Program (R4D2), which will continue to support the development of the road subsector in Vanuatu, plus selective innovative and catalytic economic infrastructure support. The role requires providing high-level strategy, policy and program advice to senior managers in the Australian Government and to partners in Vanuatu.

Essential Selection Criteria

► Tertiary qualifications and a minimum of five years technical expertise and/or experience in public policy, development or related sectors.

► Strong communication skills in written and spoken English and Bislama.

► An operational knowledge of aid management and development policy.

► Knowledge of Vanuatu and Government of Vanuatu systems and processes.

► Must be eligible and authorized to work in Vanuatu.
